Rotary International is a major contributor to our Goats for Afghanistan project.
Rick Burns, a Rotarian, represented the Karadah Project at the Rotary District 6000 Annual Conference in Ames, Iowa May 3-4, 2014. Rick talked about our work in Iraq and Afghanistan with some emphasis on our Afghanistan Goat projects. There were great opportunities to talk with Rotarians about how the goals and missions of the Karadah Project and Rotary are aligned in many ways. Rotary has been at the forefront of Polio eradication around the world since its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Due in large part to Rotary’s work, the world is now 99 percent polio-free. Only three countries remain polio endemic - Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Afghanistan had 37 reported cases in 2012; 14 in 2013; and only 3 so far in 2014. We are well on the way to complete eradication of polio in the next few short years. |
